Some positives to be taken from the michigan fisaco

While this game was horrible and sent me into a spiralling depression, haha just kidding folks, there were some positives to take from it. While Dayne has very limited game experience, he is clearly years ahead of his back ups. If Dayne doesn’t get hurt i think we score on our second drive to make it fourteen nothing. At the point our defense had contained michigan and probably would have continued to do so after a kickoff rather than taking over on their own thirty after one play. if we got a sizeable lead on michigan it would have been harder for denard robinson. he is a great quarterback with the lead, but we haven’t seen how he handles being down by multiple scores. i think with dayne on the field the entire game we would have seen robinson wilt under the pressure and the true quality of his throwing ability would have been revealed.

another thing that was impressive to me was the play of our defense. Our defense somehow kept us in the game despite the fact that our offense was doing absolutely nothing under rees and montana. even though robinson had one big long touchdown run at the end of the first half, other than one other occasion most of his long runs weren’t designed qb runs they came from broken plays. This means our coverage was good enough that robinson felt better off running the ball than waiting for someone to get open.

this team plays as a team. When their backs were up against the wall they managed to come back and even take the lead. that would not have happened under the previous three coaches. Brian Kelly motivated that team and with the return of Dayne it was obvious that ND was the better team. We won the second half seventeen to seven and with dayne playing we outscored michigan 24-7 The problem with outscoring the other team by ten in the second half was we were down fourteen at the half. I have to wonder if we kicked the field goal right before halftime, ruffer has a chance to win the game as the clock expires. i think with a back up quarterback and a young team you have to take points anyway you can get them, especially in the first half.

so to summarize:
1) Dayne good
2) Defense much improved
3) real team with real team spirit
