Hockey: Bowling Green and Round Up

Before I get going on Notre Dame’s weekend series with Bowling Green (pictured) I want to recap all my hockey posts.
Since I have had a lot of posts today and you might not have read them all, here are my Notre Dame Hockey Posts:

Sophomore Forward Riley Sheahan has big news

Now on to current news, the #11 Notre Dame Hockey team split this weekend’s series with Bowling Green State University. For the record Bowling Green is not a state. The Irish lost 3-2 with goals from T.J. Tynan and Billy Maday. Mike Johnson had 20 saves in the loss. Notre Dame out shot Bowling Green but couldn’t convert enough of their chances into goals to get any points from the game.

Saturday night the outcome was more just, as Notre Dame defeated BGSU 6-3. Freshman David Gerths scored the first Irish goal in the first period, but the Irish were down 2-1 at the first intermission. This is despite of the fact that ND had 11 shots on goal and BGSU had only 3. Freshman goalie Steve Summerhays was starting and apparently needed more time to get in to the game.

Notre Dame flipped the game on its head in the second period with three goals to make it 4-2. The Irish goals came from Ryan Guentzel, Sean Lorenz and T.J. Tynan. Calle Ridderwall and Anders Lee then added two more in the third to give the Irish the victory. The three points won by Notre Dame moved them into first place in the CCHA.

The rule regarding weekend away series is to either get something from each game, or to win one. Notre Dame managed to get three huge points on the road. This is a good sign for a very young team.
